The first six weeks of an adult class, described honestly
Almost every adult who comes back after week one stays for the term. The hard part is week one, and it is hard in a specific and survivable way.
It is not the class that stops people coming back
Adults do not usually stop coming because the class was too difficult. They stop because of the twenty minutes before it: the corridor, the mirror, the certainty that everybody else has been doing this for years. Most of them have not; the majority of every open adult class here started as an adult.
Week one, week two, week four
Week one you will be behind. Week two you will be behind and will know the warm-up. By about week four the warm-up stops requiring attention and you start noticing the actual content of the class, which is when it becomes enjoyable rather than survivable.
What the mirror is actually for
The mirror is the other thing nobody warns adults about. It is not there to make you look at yourself; it is a measuring instrument and it takes a month to start using it as one. Stand at the side for the first few weeks if you want to. Nobody will mention it.
Two versions of every combination, and taking the simpler one
Every combination in an adult open class is given in two versions, and taking the simpler one is not a lesser class. The teacher would rather you did the simple version well for a term than the hard version badly for a term and then left.
Fall Term 2026 · enrolment open · one free trial per student per discipline
Book a free trial class, or enrol for the term
A trial is a real class and the student joins in. It is the only evidence about a school that is not marketing, which is why it costs nothing. If the class you want is full you will be offered the waiting list instead, with the position you would be in — a number, not a promise to be in touch.
