Teens

Teen classes

Serious classes for students who have chosen to be there, and no pressure to make it a career.

  • Ages thirteen to seventeen
  • seventeen classes open to this age
  • eight disciplines to choose from

What ages thirteen to seventeen actually gets

Teenage classes here are technically the most demanding in the school and the least anxious. Almost nobody in them is going to dance or play professionally, everybody knows it, and the work is better for it. We do not run a competition team, we do not audition for classes, and we do not tell fifteen-year-olds that they are behind.

  • Ballet technique, jazz, contemporary and adult-standard tap are all open to teens.
  • The teen vocal ensemble has no audition and eight places.
  • Students at this age often take three or four classes a week; the family discount applies to every one after the first.
  • We will write a reference for a student applying to a programme elsewhere, and we will be honest in it.

On the timetable

Every class open to this age

Filtered from the whole timetable by age rather than by discipline. Every row is a real class with a real number of places and a fee the enrolment system actually charges.

seventeen classes are open to this age band. The fee shown is this term's: a per-session rate multiplied by the sessions that class actually meets.

What a class here is actually like

In the room: Technically the most demanding classes in the school and the least anxious ones. Almost nobody in a teen class here is going to dance or play professionally, everybody in the room knows it, and the work is better for that being said aloud rather than left as an unspoken hope.

The first term: A teenager joining for the first time is placed by what they can actually do, worked out over the first class or two, not by their age — and moved between levels afterward by a conversation rather than by a test.

What it costs: Fees for every teen class are in the table above. Students at this age often take several classes in a week, and the family discount applies to every one after the first.

No auditions, no competition team, and an honest reference

There is no audition for any teen class and none for the teen vocal ensemble, and there is no competition team attached to any discipline this school teaches.

We do not tell a fifteen-year-old that they are behind. Almost nobody in a teen class here is going to do this professionally, and measuring a hobbyist against a vocational timeline serves nobody in the room.

If a student applies to a programme elsewhere, we will write a reference, and it says what we actually think rather than what is easiest to read.

We publish no alumni list and no success rate. We publish no alumni list, no placement rate and no success percentage, because a neighbourhood school's honest claim is about the years a student spends here rather than about where a few of them ended up.

A trial is a real class and the student joins in. It is the only evidence about a school that is not marketing, which is why it costs nothing. If the class you want is full you will be offered the waiting list instead, with the position you would be in — a number, not a promise to be in touch.
