Background
Danny grew up eight blocks from the studio and started tap at this school's predecessor as a child in the nineties. He came back to teach in 2016 after ten years of battles, teaching residencies and a period running a youth programme in the Bronx.
He teaches both of the disciplines that make noise, which is why they are upstairs in Studio C. Tap is the one people underestimate: it is the most mathematical thing taught in this building and the class that most reliably turns a reluctant nine-year-old into somebody who practises.
He runs the adult hip hop class on Thursday and is unsentimental about it — most of the people in it have never danced, and he says the first six weeks are about learning that being bad at something in a mirror is survivable.

Every fee here is a rate times a number of sessions. Every fee on this site is a per-session rate multiplied by the number of times the class actually meets in that term. The multiplication is shown rather than the answer, because two classes of the same length in the same term can honestly cost different amounts when a holiday falls on one of their weekdays.
What Danny teaches
- Hip hop — Grounded, rhythmic and taught with its history attached rather than as a style borrowed from a video.
- Tap — The most mathematical thing taught in this building, and the one that most reliably makes a child practise.
What to expect in this class
Expect a class about hearing before it is about shape: a step is corrected for its sound before it is corrected for how it looks. If it is tap, expect it to be loud, upstairs, and unapologetic about being loud. If it is hip hop, expect the history of the movement to come with the movement rather than being left out of the room.
